Species: Siberian chives - Allium nutans L.
Botanical Description
Siberian chives (Allium nutans) is a perennial bulbous plant belonging to the family Amaryllidaceae and the genus Allium. The bulb is typically solitary or paired, narrowly cylindrical to conical, 1.5–2 cm in diameter, and attached to a horizontal or oblique thick rhizome. The bulb is covered by a blackish membranous tunic. Leaves are broad-linear, slightly curved, 6–10(--15) mm wide, flat, fleshy, smooth, and rounded at the tip. The leaf sheath measures 30–60 cm in length, is bifurcated, narrowly two-winged, and covered at the base with scales.
The inflorescence is a densely flowered umbel. The pedicels are nearly equal in length and 2–3 times longer than the perianth. Bracts are present. The perianth is simple and trimerous, and the tepals are pale red to light purple, forming a star-like appearance. The ovary is trilocular. [1]
Distribution
The Siberian chives originate from Europe (Russia) and extend into Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Tibet, Xinjiang, and Asian Russia (Altai Krai, Krasnoyarsk, Tuva, Western Siberia, and Amur Oblast). The plant thrives in its natural habitats in wetter meadows and other moist environments. [2]
Uses and Pharmacological Properties
The plant is cultivated as an ornamental. Although pharmacologically under-researched, it shares similarities with other Allium species. Its primary components include organic sulfur compounds. [3]

Botaaniline kirjeldus
Sibulat katab mustjas membraanne soomus. Lehed on lai-lineaarsed, veidi kaardus, 6–10(--15) mm laiad, lamedad, lihakad, siledad, ümara tipuga. Lehetupp on 30–60 cm pikk, kaheharuline, kitsalt kahe tiivakesega ja aluselt lehekestadega kaetud.
Õisik on tihedalt paljuõieline sarikas. Õieraod on peaaegu võrdsed, 2–3 korda pikemad kui õiekroon. Esinevad kõrglehed. Õiekate lihtne, kolmetine. Õiekroon on helepunane kuni helelilla, tähtjas. Emakas kolmeosaline. [1]
Leviala
Toime ja kasutamine
Taime kasvatatakse iluaianduses. Farmakoloogiliselt on taime vähe uuritud, kuid mitmete omaduste poolest sarnaneb see teiste perekonna lauk liikidega. Peamisteks komponentideks on orgaanilised väävliühendid. [3]
